King Magnetic Biography
This 6'9 Pennsylvanian got involved in performing hip-hop in the early 90's. From recording 4-track demo tapes to rocking' house parties & even opening for The Fugees in 1995. Shortly after being kicked out of high school and serving 8 months in juvenile detention, Mag was sentenced to eighteen months to five-years in prison. Using this time to further hone his rhyming skill, Magnetic was finally granted work release with recording privileges in 1999. After making parole in July '99, Mag made some regional noise in 2000, but, a parole violation had Magnetic maxing-out his 5-year sentence in 2001. Within four months of his release in 2002, he was facing up to fourteen years for drug & gun charges in New York. Once making bail & returning to PA, Mag decided to slow down & start a family.
Magnetic never left the rap game completely. He could still be seen performing regionally, gaining notoriety for his flow, while producing tracks for some of PA's independent artists. Mag began recieving some national attention in 2005 when he produced the Philly anthem "The Sound of Philadelphia" for Reef the Lost Cauze. The song would go on to air on ESPN Monday Night Countdown, a 76ers game & a British Documentary. It wasn't until 2006 - at Penn's Landing stage, in front of thousands with hip hop legends such as Redman, Wu-Tang & EPMD-there was no question performing was the King's calling. Mag began to produce Everything's A Gamble Volume One as a prelude for his full-length debut. "Everything's A Gamble" consists of some of Magnetic's songs from 2003 - 2006 & features underground heavyweights such as: Sean Price, Edo G, Chino XL, Copywrite amongst others. "EAG" is now available on iTunes, eMusic.com, hiphopsite.com & more. While mixing "EAG" in July 2007, Mag was invited to appear on the Army of the Pharaohs (AOTP) 2007 LP "The Ritual of Battle". AOTP is a "supergroup" spearheaded by Jedi Mind Tricks' front man Vinnie Paz & features Apathy, Celph Titled, Esoteric, Reef the Lost Cauze & others. After standing out on tracks such as "Drama Theme" & "Black Christmas", Mag earned a spot as an official member in the Army of the Pharaohs.
Shortly after making his cameos on AOTP's album, Magnetic shot his 1st promotional video, "I Don't Know You" which debuted on billboard.com, allmusic.com's Top 5 New Hip-hop Videos, artofryhme.com & other music sites. In early 2008 he followed up with his "Crown Me" video & began doing more collaborations. Some of the more notable appearances to date include:
